Cold Edge and Ringstone

Cold Edge dams this morning - a good show of the commoner birds up there with a juvenile Cuckoo the best of the lot. Also Little Grebe, Kestrel, Willow Warbler, 2 Moorhen, 2 Curlew, 10+ Greenfinch, Snipe, 30+ Swifts passing through >W but very few Swallows. Plenty Linnets and Goldfinch. Blackbird and Meadow Pipits still feeding young.

 Distant juvenile Cuckoo

Ringstone this afternoon after arranging to meet AT up there to look for DF's Mediterranean Gull (found on Sunday) - took and age to get there via Salterhebble !
Just got there, hardly a gull in sight. Then the first bird we saw was the Med Gull flying in to land on the water. It then flew off towards the embankment to preen. Looked to only have one leg (?) but apart from that a nice adult bird still in summer plumage.
Also Common Sandpiper, Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe and at on point a lot of B H Gulls and several L B B gulls in the fields and at least one adult Common Gull, an Oystercatcher and a small group of Lapwings.

Quick on the draw getting the Cuckoo Dave.
We were sat in the Salterhebble queue going to West Vale garden centre early afternoon and all she bought was 2 scented candles.

Nice Cuckoo shot Dave.
Little Grebe in short supply for me!
There seems to be fewer Swallows this year although Bradshaw has a good few.
(The odd times I go to Ringstone I go via Ripponden - seems ok. I take it the 2nd phase of the bypass is the problem?).
