Sorry to use your photo Sean but Andy Cockroft asked me to put this comment on
the Blog and the only way on at present is with a photo.
This message will probably have Nick D spitting feathers.
AC says.... Many thanks for the finder of this Scan. Rock Pipit,in my view, now
that Ive studied the photos,(nice one again Sean) the main features are :-
dark malar patch, strong super behind the eye, grey mantle/blueish tint
strong smudged flanks, dark legs, and the main featureis the outer tail feather,
although its off white at the edge it turns grey at the centre of the feather
(it would be all white in a Water Pipit. An excellent find and only the 2nd Calderdale
record,I think. Are there any photos of the Green Withens bird for comparison.

Thanks for posting this Brian, Andy asked me to post it but I wasn't able to access the posting Blog bit (still aren't). The whole blogger problem is getting ridiculous, is there anyone out there who can sort this out please?
Sorry if I am the one spillting hairs but the colour of the outer tail feather is not the critical i.d. feature of this bird.
Rock Pipit A p littoralis can have whitish outer tail feathers and Water Pipit can (I have seen this in Isreal)have greyish!
This is a quote from Pipits and Wagtails by Alstrom and Mild "In the field the pale wedge (on T6 outer) often appears whitish even when pale greyish" It also goes on to say " the pale wedge on T6 is sometimes whitish on tip and rarely entire wedge is close to whitish". I hope this is of some help.
