Gorple Fire Damage

Important moorland habitat destroyd by fire. This destruction will effect such species as Curlew, Lapwing, Meadow Pipit, Skylark, Short-eared Owl and possibly Long-eared Owl and other woodland species. Part of the woodland as been completly destroyd while other areas remain untouched. Remarkably Woodpigeons were displaying over the burnt wood whilst it was still smouldering.

Myself and Andy H were up there this morning and the ground was still smoldering in places. The fire brigade were there damping down.

Saw Lapwings and Mipits in the burned grassland areas.

Up there Sunday afternoon, still smouldering in parts, hopefully the ensuing downpour helped.

Pair of Curlew also seen on the burned grass area.
