Visited Cromwell Bottom this morning for a site visit with Hugh Firman and Tim Edge to get up to speed so it wasn't a birding visit as such, however:
2 Cormorants over
On the river-
3 Teal (2m 1f) - why doesn't "Teals" sound right as a plural?
7 Mallards
Moorhen
Little Grebe
Grey Heron
8 Goosanders (5m 3f)
3 Coal Tits on the numerous feeders by the fisherman's car park

A 'spring' of teal is the collective name
Well I never knew that Andy. Thanks. It really does describe the way they take off doesn't it.
Mind you, it won't help me if I want to put how many birds/ducks/Teal(s) there were in the spring :-)
Andy's comment prompted me to check the dictionary and the plural of Teal is Teal, as with sheep. I've always said Teal as a plural but didn't know it was grammatically correct. I live and learn.
it's something i'd always taken as being right without truely knowing. Whats the latest on EGP then?
