No Little Owls in the usual haunts - wonder if they are one of the casualties in this recent cold weather spell ? - anyone else had any?

Dave i've found little owls hard to come by all winter long. This spring/summer I had 5 pairs on a 7mile circular walk in my area. Since then i've only had one which was in the usual spot just past the ridge pub. Strange because this individual is living higher up than any of the others. So i'm guessing they must move off somewhere after breeding, can't explain why this individual decides to stick it out though.
The latest BTO News has an article about the declining number of Little Owls. Haven't seen one up my way since last November.
Your lack of sightings since november tie in with mine but I think to prove a decline locally we need to wait till spring. Find it hard to believe they have all just died off! Maybe this is a survey we can add to the list for the group to do. Certainly a pleasant one given the scenary you can take in and other upland birds you'll encounter. Any takers?
