Eagle update

I sent the picture of the suspected White-tailed Eagle to world raptor expert Dick Forsman and he seems happy that the bird in question is in fact a White-tailed Eagle. The question now is can we claim it for Calderdale or not. The observer was not in Calderdale but a kilometre or so to the south of our border, however he did say it came from the north. I have emailed him for further information but not received anything back as yet. Watch this space and any comments most welcome.

If he was in Meltham , it could have come from east or west and still looked like it came in from the north..................Unless he was at the car park at Buckstones...forget it from me... the Red Necked phalarope at Thorton moor .....flew which way..............

Brian said..... Thats right Andy. When I used to do it nearly 30 years ago several rarer birds used to go over the Shay then through the gap between Soil Hill and Ogden to go down the Causeway Foot Col. Especially raptors. Even had a Great Grey Shrike go that way.
I got the Red Necked Phalarope on the water but never saw it leave.

If it helps, the observer's watch point is just under 1km due E of March Haigh Res.

Thanks dave...makes it a lot clearer
I do not think you can see Calderdale from this spot.So the bird was not seen in Calderdale but it may have come over Calderdale. Thanks again
