white wagtail
one flying over bradshaw this morning being chased by a pied wagtail. have not been out much latly so this is the highlite of the week
Watch you dont get mixed up with White Wags and female Pied Wags dishfish. White Wags are pretty rare and it is almost impossible to tell them apart in flight. This is why we record all pied / white wags as Alba Wagtails seen on visible migration.
Be very careful when claiming White Wagtail in the autumn. It is a very scarce bird in Calderdale and most birds 99%occur in the spring, only 1 or 2 records per year. Its more likely you saw a female Pied Wagtail, to be sure check the rump.
I wouldn't claim one as a flyover. Some folk are said to be able to hear a difference in call but I would argue this is not entirely reliable (someone will tell me off now ....). I don't think this race is claimable as a flyover in UK, not for 100% id.
Copies are available at £6.00 each from the GO local store at Woodlesford, Pellon price . Hopefully they will also be available at the Fox and Goose Hebden Bridge ,
