scaup ringtone edge

whilst at green withens this evening sean gray rang me to say a friend had seen a possible scaup at ringstone but without a scope he wasn't sure but was 60/40 in favour of scaup.i arrived at about 1815 and found a duck asleep just by the hide, through a 60x zoom it was an obvious female/imm scaup due to the large size and the rounded head, but waited until it i woke to confirm,it woke as i got a text off dave sutcliffe asking if anyone could take a look,so i put the news out, when i left at 1837 it was still present.

Scaup still present when I left the hide at 9 pm. Managed to get some reasonable views from the hide, it didn't have the typical fully rounded head of Scaup I have seen before, at times appearing to have a flatter crown and slight "bump" at the rear crown. Did have the large billed appearance typical of Scaup though. Waited for ages for it to spread its wings (just to make sure!!) but no joy.

The bird did spread its wings for us at 11.30 am Thursday. Nice record.
