Fieldfares at Lowfields

Sue and I spotted a small flock of Fieldfares feeding on Rowan Berries on the Lowfields Industrial Estate this morning. We got good views of a few of the birds (around 12 or so in the flock) as we ran past whilst out jogging but I am not sure if Redwings were mixed in with them as they took off as we got nearer. Another newbie question, is this not early in the season for Fieldfares as I usually see them in Winter or early Spring ?

Very early! Are you sure they weren't Mistle thrushes as these are often encountered in flocks of the size you saw at this time of year? To be honest Fieldfare is very unlikely.

Hi Nick
It was the Grey head that made me think they were Fieldfares. Its something I usually look for when sorting them from other Thrushes on Norland. We did not get a great view of them as we were running at the time but the Grey head was very noticable. I will mark them down as unlikly unless I spot them again this week when out running (its our regular running track).
