Wednesday's Water Pipits
Sorry for late post. Lower Gorple on Wednesday and me and AC found two Water Pipits feeding in the out flow and then on the waters edge along the dam wall. May still be there at the weekend with any luck.
OH crap I will look though my photos if I have not deleted them and check again. I think I saw pure white tail sides and white wing bars but when you are taking pictures you tend not to concentrate on the bird.
Ok nick. It just looks overall swarthy plumage to me with heavily blurred underparts streaking, especially on flanks and poor super but good eye ring? As opposed to browner backed water with whiter unders and thinner flank streaks. But I know both can be variable. Though I think rump colour pretty consistent. Could be wrong!
Thanks Mick ,I am sure they are Rock now and it has been said that they are probably/may be Scandinavian types as they are very grey compared to the bird we had in the same spot last year which had a yellow flush to the breast...cheers
I think most rock pipits seen on mig/inland are littoralis Andy. Just that most in autumn and in spring aren't obviously different to brit if I remember right. Can't open your link. There was a good succinct paper by chris heard in a birding south east annual report years ago. It did appear on internet too but I'm not sure it's still on there. Good patch birds.is left hand t6 crossed over right hand t6 in nick's pic. Anyway, my patch is so good I'm I'm at spurn!!
Copies are available at £6.00 each from the GO local store at Woodlesford, Pellon price . Hopefully they will also be available at the Fox and Goose Hebden Bridge ,

Why not rock pipit nick? Eg can see spur of rump colour poking down under tertials and it's cold colour not warm brown?
