Ogden
An Osprey heading north towards Thornton Moor this afternoon in the strong westerly wind and rain was a real treat! We were just up by the 'Giant's tooth' when it came over from the res'r area and away at speed over the moor. It's like the weather conditions were not a problem for this strong flyer and guess it will be over the border country come evening at the rate it was flying. 1 drake Tufted Duck on the res'r along with 1 female Goldeneye and Great-spotted Woodpecker nearby.

Great stuff Dave, Ospreys seem to like todays sort of weather as much as the clear.
HC at Oxenhope got a couple over a few years back in near gale force winds and heavy driving rain.
Hope Nigel hasnt done anything silly to himself after missing the bird by 15 minutes, he came in the garage to borrow a tow rope?
Makes me wonder how many go through that we miss!
Not thinking about the autumn just yet (too much to look forward to this spring)but if they have a good breeding season up in Scotland then there should be at least twice or three times as many coming back!
I was also wondering (dangerous I know)why we don't seem to pick Marsh Harriers up in the same way, as they must go through about this time as well. Any thoughts on that one? Nigel seems to pick those up - 2 last year I think. I hope he brings the tow rope back !
The problem with all harriers is that they usually go through low below the sky line so are very hard to spot, thats my excuse anyway.
I,ll get the tow rope back tomorrow when I cut hit down.
