Dogs in Reed Beds

Calderdale MBC are currently looking at bringing in dog control orders. It might be a good idea if local birders contact the Environmental Health Dept & suggest local wildlife areas need to be considered in the plans.

In the meantime how about suggesting an action day with Robin at CB involving Officers from CMBC & Philip Sanderson (Police Wildlife Officer) along with local birders?

It might be that a little bit of education to offending dog owners does the trick.

... there are no signs to say that the area is a nature reserve, no signs saying dogs should be on leads or kept under control and no signs saying there are sensitive breeding birds in the reed-beds......so I cannot condemn the man for being an ignorant old git .....
Plus......
This evening I received a report from a member f the public that there were two (separate) dead Roe Deer down EGP.....one being scavanged already. My first thought was idiots with guns? second thought...natural causes?....third....injured in RTA......but finally....death by dog?......food for thought.

Plus plus.....been bitten on the arse by barge dogs on canal tow path last year and "harassed" by "wayward" dogs on several occasions down EGP.

Did the dog need to be destroyed after it had bitten you?

No Howard, I let it pass but had strong words with the owner about getting it muzzled. It was a Jack Russel bitch that was "agitated" (?) by my tripod and camera, and was being over-protective towards it's grown-up pup.
