Ogden Garden
A flock of circa 15 waxwings landed in the trees in the garden at approx 3.00pm. They stayed for about 5 minutes and then flew off north west in the direction of Ogden Water. They were last seen perched in the fir tree behind the old keepers cottage.
That is a very good record. This is the first report for Calderdale this winter. In the first winter period none were reported (Thank you BIRDGUIDES)in West Yorkshire. Since then 23 reports in West Yorkshire (some from the same sites)from 1st Jan, mostly ones and twos with a max of 15 birds. Most of the berries were scoffed by thrushes as the cold weather set in Nov and Dec so any Waxwings will probably have had difficulty in finding suitable food sources since then.
Copies are available at £6.00 each from the GO local store at Woodlesford, Pellon price . Hopefully they will also be available at the Fox and Goose Hebden Bridge ,
