Goosanders

2 females and a male Goosander on the river by Anchor Pit Lock - near Bradley Hall, and mating observed between the male and one of the females; will they stay and nest, I wonder, like the pair at EGP last year ??
Also a Dipper and Yellow Wagtail
Sparrowhawk overhead
Mandarin still with the Mallards on the canal.

Are you sure you mean Yellow Wagtail Mike and not Grey?

I bet there have been several breeding Goosander in the area, and not just locally. They are one species that seem to be increasing in number and expanding their range. I am seeing them everywhere these days. At one time you only saw them in winter unless you travelled to Scotland

I remember getting really excited when we had one at Elland GP years ago, good to know that not all birds are in decline!
