Is anyone aware of any winter Jackdaw roosts in Calderdale ?
Or if you are not aware of a roost site you may have seen Jackdaws/other corvids heading in a regular direction mid/late afternoons. If you have, please note the area you have seen them and the direction they are heading and approximate numbers would be a great help.
Please let me know if you have any information
Many thanks
Dave

Hi Dave
There a huge corvid roost at the bottom of Cragg Vale, and another impressive one above Centre Vale park in Todmorden.

Holdsworth fields holds at least 150 mixed rook and jackdaw late afternoons. Not yet identified final roost site.
Northowram has about 80 Jackaws going to roostand there is one at the top of shibden vally but I have not counted it.??
we see a lot of jackdaws flying up towards the raggalds from where we live but i dont know if they roost in calderdaleor bradford
There's been a regular passage of Crows in late afternoon for the past few months: difficult to judge just how many, but probably 50+, flying N/NE over Hove Edge.
Thanks for the input everyone - keep an eye out at the sites mentioned and if you can let me know of any numbers/guestimates or other potential sites that would be great.
Others sites have been mentioned possibly at Ryburn Dam and Ovenden Wood.
The one at the head of Shibden Valley was nearly all carrion crows (Swales Moor birds?), a few rooks and magpies last time I looked, must go and have a count sometime.
The Cragg Vale one sounds interesting!
I guess the Raggalds ones are likely to be part of the big roost at Bradford and the Hove Edge ones could be part of Shibden head (or Bradford)? Holdsworth Fields could head off to Bradford (?)
Dave, I had around 1000 roosting at Dauber Bridge in October 2006. This will be the roost Matt Bell is referring to.
