I was just practicing shooting birds in flight on Sunday and picked on a lone gull. I didn't think anything of it until I was processing my other photos and it struck me as looking a bit odd. I'm not an expert on gulls so wondered if anyone else could give a definitive ID from the photos. I've put it down as a common gull but I'm a bit thrown by what appears to be a dark ring on the bill and the collar.

hi,
it looks like its just a common gull mainly because the bill is very slender and has a greeny tinge to the base, even though it has a 'ring' rounds it bill, and ring billed gull has a pale eye, hope this helps and great pictures
Thanks for that Darrell. That's pretty much what I thought. It was too far away for a good photo. I had to crop pretty closely to get anything.
