Green Sandpiper still at Brighouse Filters

5th time lucky! The wintering bird was seen at 10:30 this morning in exactly the same location as mentioned before by other birders on the first small filter bed on the left after the small hut opposite the lock-keepers house at the confluence of the River Calder and the Calder & Hebble Navigation. As reported in a previous posting it then flew across the river onto Heaton Lodge Sewage Plant which is full of birdlife, two problems however, one it is situated on the wrong side of the Calderdale Birding Boundary and secondly there is no obvious viewing point.
About half an hour later I watched a Common Buzzard soaring over woodland bordering Kirklees Hall (Grid Ref SE172217) running alongside A644 Wakefield Road. This is the second time I have observed a Buzzard around this area in the last month.

David, I think the eastern part of Heaton Lodge sewage works is actually still in your area. It's in the 1720 square anyway. I used to scan it occasionally from the little railway bridge at SE 179204, reached by walking from Bog Green Lane, but I don't know if that's still possible.

To be honest David, as I live in Kirklees myself, I have absolutely no idea whether Heaton Lodge is in the Halifax Birding Area or not, however it is still possible to walk down to the sewage works and view the area from the southern perimeter, although the view from the railway bridge is very restricted, which is unfortunate as the site is likely to be as good as any locally in winter for pipits, wagtails and who knows what else!

Correction to earlier post: western, not eastern.
