Rookeries

I'm looking to photograph some rooks while they are displaying, so does anyone know a rookery that's at about eye level? The one at Hartshead service station is near perfect because it is next to the bridge but the sun is behind the birds when they are displaying at the nest site meaning there's not much detail. Birds that sit on the other side of the bridge are illuminated but not displaying! Cheers.

Hi Jim. I'm also on the lookout for such a site, preferably looking down from a higher viewpoint. I was filming some nest-building from a low viewpoint at Luddenden a few days ago, but I may have a better site in Wheatley. I have yet to look at access to the viaduct that overlooks this alternative site.

From the Rook survey we did last year the only one that overlooks the rookery is the one Steve refers to but access might be difficult and it could be hazardous! The one at Greetland might be a possibility for some nests(?)If you would like a list of last years survey I could send it to you Jim if you text me your email!

This looks like the Luddenden site I was referring to Jasono. Looking up-hill from the river, it is behind some new-build properties.

Thanks, I may try that after work this week if it's nice.

Try the one at upper Greetland, Jim and Steve.
The sun in the morning is on your back, and some nests are on level with the road, though not low enough to see the eggs.
In addition, the road is wide, with a pavement.

just thought - if you can get into calderdale college - you could photograph the rookery in peoples park from well above the nests!
