Local Valley Raptors
Just beat the showers with a late morning walk round a local valley. Was hoping for Brambling in the woods or Wheatear on the moor edges. Failed on both counts but did get Nuthatch, Treecreeper, GSW x 2 in the woods. Then out in the open the female Kestrel was hunting. 3 Buzzards were up together when a Merlin came amongst them. We were then treated to an aerial display of speed for a good couple of minutes. It skimmed along the moorland on the South facing side before finally crossing the valley towards the moor on the opposite side. My favourite bird and it made my day.
