Twite are slowly returning to Fly Flatts with 5 this morning, which as far as I could see none had rings but conditions were grim so can,t be sure, and NK / DP had 6 yesterday.
DJS and myself are putting Nyger down so if you get up there a pocket full of nyger would be appreciated, especially by the birds.

Lovely shots Bri, great to see them back. Looks like a weekly trip from now on with seed. Well done for getting up there on a day like this. Gearing up for Wheatears now. I see Sand Martins are already showing in Lancs and south yorks!

Are there any other localities to see twite in Calderadle these days? I live in Milnrow and Fly Flatts is a bit of a trek for me (though will go if I have no alternatives). I used to go up to Light Hazzles, but not seen them there for a few years now. Are they still to be found near the Derby Bar for example?

I believe Twite are still present at Derby Delph but not sure of any other sites near you, NCs your man for that.

Birdguides show 7 Twite this morning at Deer Hill res. which is over your end . The report was from David Tattersley who says they were at the feeding station there.
Hi Chris. They are fed at Derby Delph and some decent flocks there in recent years in the quarry . Not sure about any wintering birds but guess they will be back there by now?
Yes, I've noticed they have returned to Deer Hill, so that is a possibility.
Hi DJ (sorry, don't know your first name!). Apologies for the bombardment of questions, but is the feeding station actually in the quarry and what are the access arrangements? I wouldn't wish to disturb the 'other' birds that are in the vicinity.

Hi Chris.
Sorry I missed this one yesterday.The feeding station is at the end of the grass track into the quarry and the signs will be going up any day to prevent access, but Twite can be viewed safely from road if you park by the fencing on the opposite side of the road and look over quarry wall.A few back already, flocks of upto 130+ birds last year.
Brill' thanks for that Tim. I'll try and get over there in the next few days. I'm very pleased that I now have somewhere local to see twite after the demise of the Light Hazzles and White Holme flocks. And with the added bonus of not having to walk so far!
