Fly Flats
The res'r was completely frozen this afternoon (no surprise). In this area by the outflow the ice looked very strange where it had refrozen after the partial thaw. It could be like this all winter the way things are going!!
It was very eerie walking back down the side of Lower Gorple at dusk perhaps something to do with a slight temp drop but the ice was making amazing creaking and groaning noises. Both the two Gorples and Ringstone were completely frozen over today as were Baitings and Blackstone Edge when we passed.
I had the same experience last year at Fly Flats with the ice groaning and cracking. I wondered if it was due to water being drawn off and the water level dropping leaving the ice suspended then cracking as it dropped?
Copies are available at £6.00 each from the GO local store at Woodlesford, Pellon price . Hopefully they will also be available at the Fox and Goose Hebden Bridge ,
