On a walk today: four snipe and a single red grouse flushed on Erringden Moor, plus a huge flock (500+) of starlings flying up Broad Head Clough and over Erringden Moor. Also, green woodpecker and sparrowhawk in Spring Wood (Broad Head Clough) and 20+ lesser redpoll feeding on birch catkins, just above Higher Cragg. Lots of wood pigeons about today too.
I am very impressed with Spring Wood in Broad Head Clough. Do pied fly' or similar ever turn up here? I last walked through it a few summers ago and flushed a woodcock that day.
Regards, Chris
