Copley

Posting on behalf of Andy Huyton

Calderdale Council are planning, quite rightly, to eradicate Japanese Knotweed from the Copley Valley area outside Sowerby Bridge. However, at a time when birds are beginning to nest, there is a concern that the people undertaking the work may inadvertently disturb some sensitive species.
The council have agreed that if any particular area is shown to have breeding birds in it, they will remove this from the early stages of the knotweed bashing.

Could anyone volunteer to do a mornings breeding bird survey to establish what species are showing nesting behaviour, and where? The survey would ideally need to be completed by the end of this weekend.

cheers matt, in case some are wondering why i don't do it, unfortunately i'm off to spain early hours friday morning. A couple of years ago a similar exercise in hardcastle crags took place. Since then we have had no sign of wood warbler in what was a traditional site.
