Ringstone

Called in at the hide tonight to check it out after all the poor weather, everything OK, a little damp in one spot but in general its handled the weather really well, disappointed to see only two people (myself and Nigel) have been there in the last two months or so. Spirits were lifted by a Whimbrel on the north shore that flew west calling loudly. Decided to walk along the north shore area to check out the pools which are looking really good at the moment with lots of water (no surprise there I suppose!), struggling through the wet vegetation was rewarded with two Sedge Warblers flushed from the juncus. Must try to get up there more often, really pleaseant sitting in the hide in the evening light.

Hi Nick
Someone was looking over Ringstone this afternoon around 3.30 pm from a car on the roadside using bins. We also spotted another car parked in almost the same spot this morning on our way up on a bike ride. I had assumed that something good must have arrived for people to be using the road and that people were in the hide viewing whatever it was

Cheers Darrel, glad you managed to catch up with the Sedgies, how many you on for Calderdale now?

Don't know what people were looking at this morning Paul, nothing came through on the grapevine.

I have been one of those car-bound watchers at times, the reason being that it is often too windy to hold bins still and I assume that I don't have access rights to the hide.

I must confess that I've never seen much either.

Hi Alf

To get a key you need to contact Andy Cockroft (our treasurer and key distributor)he will give you full details of how to go about getting access to the hide.

Whilst I think on when we were arranging site coverage for this year's BTO Ringed and Little ringed Plover survey Andy said you would cover the Elland GP area, assuming you have done this could you let me have your completed survey form ASAP please as I want to get them all back to the BTO. If you prefer you can always send them to the BTO regional rep directly (Mike Denton).

Thanks

Nick

What ever happened to the Sedge Warblers from EGP ? it doesnt seem long since there was a singing bird in every bramble bush and the habitat hasnt changed.

Hi Nick

Andy did the EGP survey himself. I couldn't help this time but am always willing to in the future.

Thanks Alf, Andy has E mailed to say the results are on their way. Just out of interest are you the same Alf King that posts on Delhibird occasionally?
