hawfinch
couple of hawfinch knocking about near robin hood pub up crag vale at about 2pm. do we get many round here normally?
What I'm really thinking is that it's about time somebody told you what you are. You're a poser and a charlatan and the group doesn't take you serious. Nobody goes out birding 3 times and gets 3 good scarce/rare birds. There's people in this group sweat their balls while you fantasise and seek glory.
ouch nigel. seems youve got a chip on ya shoulder.perhaps you need to go out less or just improve your id skills? its a shame some people consider birding as some sort of competition. it's always nice to feel welcome anyway.cheers nige
birding IS not competition, the fact that you only post on here when you see a 'mega' bird for the halifax area, therefore you are in competition or you are very lucky! but i think you are just wasting everyones time.
This is an interesting exchange. As many folk on here know I lived not too many spits from said pub for 11 years and never saw or (more likely) heard a Hawfinch in that time. However, in that time Calderdale's mad as a hatter million trees project was planting cherry trees like they were in severe danger of extinction but in any case the habo in Cragg Vale is nigh on perfect - see BWP. Hawfinch is an elusive beast in summer but the call once known is pretty distinctive and if you are close to them not something you would miss. If jasono is using Neissa bins then maybe an error is possible (or alternatively has some sort of sight or hearing issue) but the only other reason for doubt is if he wraps parcels the old fashioned way. Me ... I'd check it out.
from a reliable birder who checked it out just lots of jays round the pub. all this guys sightings are seen while not birding!!!! driving, paintballing and going to the pub!!!!!! real birders are never that lucky, well once yes but three times never. i was going to have a look but when i saw the name 'jasono' i forgot it.
Copies are available at £6.00 each from the GO local store at Woodlesford, Pellon price . Hopefully they will also be available at the Fox and Goose Hebden Bridge ,

We certainly don't get many round here, only 6 previous records I think!

Not birding eh, what does he see when he does don the bins?
Nick mentioned the Alpine Swift thing. What was the third species, Yellow-nosed 'tross?
Beginning to sound somewhat flaky ..... Probably won't submit descriptions anyway.
