Nuthatch

Hi Matt
the first record in calderdale was in hardcastle craggs in october 1950.A pair bred in centre vale park todmorden in 1987(this may be near the schoo?).With the recent explosion of this species it is not uncommon to see/hear them almost anywhere these days.

I have yet to see Nuthatch in almost 5-1/2 years of birding in this area. My previous life was nr Lister Park, Keighley Rd, Bradford. This would be approx 6 mile away from my present house. There, I used to see Nuthatch fly across roads and land on walls as well as trees!

Cheers Andy.
Nigel - a favourite spot to see them in Calderdale is at the Crags, about 10-15 yards up from the 'main' carpark. They bred there this year.

Nuthatches?
I have had occasional sightings in Centre Vale Park in the last few years. Most have been winter sightings, but there was a pair present in late Feb / early March this year. I haven't been back due to the flood relief work. These were in the conifers quite near the park entrance, but previous ones have been at the High School end of the park.
A former colleague living in Walsden asked me what the "blue woodpecker" feeding in his garden was in Spring 2002, but I never got round to seeing them there.
