Goosanders on the canal at Elland

Best picture I've got so far of this increasingly common and confiding sawbill. We found five females with two males last Sunday at Lee Dam, Todmorden being very vocal at dusk.  Nigel Griffiths also had seven on Withens Clough Reservoir last week.

They now breed in various places along the Calder, though I've never noticed a nest myself. (Two broods reported at Cromwell Bottom Local Nature reserve last year.)

There were six - 5 males, on the Calder by the Corn Mill pub, Brighouse, yesterday.
Probably the same six that were further downstream at Colnebridge last week.
