BIRD RACE

Paul, just an idea but as we are having a social event next week how about, we have the bird race that day as well? I know it's short notice but it's very easy to organise. What does everyone else think? Please post a response everyone, even if you can't make it lets show some enthusiasm.

Has everyone let Tim know if they are going and what type of pie they would like?

I'm hoping to see lots of people there although the less that turn up the greater my chances of winning one of Pauls fantastic book prizes.

Tim you can count me in for 2 people but just the 1 pork pie please.

23rd is no good for me during the day I'm afraid but I will be there at night. Hopefully this date is OK for everyone else and if so then I say go for it!

Hi Guys
From various comments it seems that Xmas is not a good time really for the great bird race. How about holding it in spring when the migrants start arriving ? I am rather hoping it will become an annual event (sponsored by Pennine Books), so I think its best to agree a consensus on date, duration and how to score it. Perhaps more points for scarce birds as opposed to more common species ? I could always offer a range of smaller prizes so that we have more than one "winner" on the day. Perhaps we could even get someone to sponsor a "trophy" to be held by the overall winner until the next year ? I know a lot of you guys like to grip off the others (all in good clean fun of course), so it would be good to have a bragging prize to hang onto each year until someone takes it off you next year :-))

Spring sounds a better idea to me Paul, hopefully more people available and more birds to see plus a greater chance of an unusual migrant to add spice!

Hi Nick
Can you suggest a date to get the ball rolling ? If we can sort an annual event we could always hold the meeting to decide on winners in Tims Pub every year (assuming he has no problem with this ?) We can perhaps discuss it further at the get together on the 23rd.

I'll be coming +1 on the 23rd and have already booked in with Tim re. the food. I'd much prefer a Spring event otherwise. When I can offload these pesky kids (any offers?) then I'll be free every weekend.

How about Saturday 10th May? Most migrants would be in by then and it doesn't interfere with either May Day weekend or Spring Bank.

10th of May sounds good to me guys I think you can count at least half of team Guys and Birds in on that.
