We had a tubular mesh peanut feeder, 7ft up, attached to the house wall and one morning a rat was feeding off it.
(I didnt get a photo though)!

Yes, one was in the feeder like that in the middle of the day over at Denby Dale. The lady asked my advice how to stop it. She had multiple feeders hanging in low shrubs, a wildly unkempt garden, lots of bad old food around, and she was surprised the rats were coming!
Apparently it is the most common reason that people stop feeding birds in the garden. I don't think the rats restrict themselves to old food, they will happily take fresh!!
