Shibden Park

A bit of an odd one but a Heron seems to be feeding with the ducks at Shibden!  It is very tame and soaks any bread in the lake before eating it.
The pair of Mute Swans are back on a nest again.

That's unusual Muxy. Interesting ! We had one earlier in the year on the canal near Hebden Bridge. We got within about 10 m of it before it took off. They are usually very wary birds !!

I've actually witnesses a green heron in the indian ocean picking up bread that the tourists through for ornamental fish, squeezing the water out, placing it on the surface of the pond, and waiting for fish to come to eat it. If they do, the heron ate them. If nothing came and the bread got saturated and sank, the heron would carefully reach in, lift the bread out, squeeze it dry and repeat.

Sounds a bit more idyllic in the Indian Ocean. It is my wife that saw it. She said it seemed though it would take out of your hand but she didn't think she should be encouraging it. Perhaps it just wants a fish butty!

Hi Muxy,
I've seen the Heron at Shibden Park a few weeks ago.
It was feeding on pieces of bread on the banking but it was wary.
Maybe its build up some courage or it's feeding young??
