Just to lighten the mood on the blog a little after recent disturbing posts about persecution and misguided 'management' of raptors, I took a few photos during my walk in Calderdale this morning and here's one that had me shaking my head when I looked at it. What bird is it? Answer later today, but I reckon you'll get it soon enough.
Yes - you're right, it was a Twite. One of a pair I saw at Langfield Edge this morning. Probably appropriate that a species that is on the edge of survival is seen at Langfield Edge?! Here's a photo taken a second or two later when it had stopped shaking its head in amazement that it had come across another Twite.

Sunlight I'd say, I think a ring would be a bit of a give away.
Nice shots Jeff, always a special bird. Nothing doing at Fly Flatts at the moment with them and we are hoping for some improvement - but not looking good. Wonder if Tim has any?
