North Loop Re-Capping

A reminder that there will be a meeting in Brighouse this Wednesday, November 9th to discuss the capping of the North Loop at Cromwell Bottom L.N.R. This will inevitably affect ground and scrub nesting birds as well as other vertebrates.

what is reason for 're-capping'? given the area is established for wildlife,ie snipe winter in good numbers on the wet grassland,jack snipe can be present too in the pond.grey partridge also have a hold on the land.
the council have had this land for years and only now do they turn it in to a 'reserve'
like the one in copley (which is now to be housing) and the same fate will fall to elland gravel pits,cromwell bottom is the area by mill not the lakes.

Hi Darrell
I understand that the capping is necessary to prevent toxins from entering the river. Capping will prevent water leaching out these chemicals. I agree that dumping such items near water courses is somewhat short-sighted anyway and causes many more problems. The meeting is to discuss this and the affect on already established wildlife.
