Swifts/Swallows/Martins survey (Update maps)

Click on the maps to enlarge them.

These are the latest results from the survey so far. With thanks to Hugh Firman and the assistance of Calderdale Countryside Service for sending in records from the public and to Evie Bell of West Yorkshire Ecology for producing these maps.

Please keep the records coming in as there are lots of gaps to fill in yet and July is a perfect month to check out your local sites. We are grateful for everyones help. Many thanks - Dave

Never go along the A58 these days but there was always a swift colony at Stump Cross in the tall buildings right on the bend.

Sand Martins- checked by the Old Mill near Brighouse today:3/4 birds overhead but no sign of any suitable nesting sites. Last breeding here was about 15 years ago, but the river banking has been washed away since then, and the RSPB and Kirklees Countryside Services weren't inclined to save the site ! A lot more disturbance as well these days-weekend picnickers, etc.
