Elland GP 24/06/

Alerted by the noise I looked up to see thro a gap in the trees a Carrion Crow was mobbing a bird of prey. Managed to get one shot of what appears to be a Buzzard?.Last seen flying towards Hove Edge/Hipperholme direction at 0815. Also seen Whitethroat with 4 young, Blackcap 4 young, Reed Bunting 3 young, Robin 3 young, Coot 2 young, 4 Grey Heron, 2 Kingfisher, but no sign since Sunday of the Goosanders. Garden Warbler singing near Avocet Works.

Well done Mike, another good record for EGP, the early morning starts are paying off, by the way I didn't relocate the female Goosander the other day after we parted but to add to your list of 'young-uns' a family party (2 adults, 2 juveniles) were feeding around the weir.

I clocked 4 singing Garden Warbler in total but I didn't cover the Tag Loop area so there may be another 1 or 2 possibly around.

2 Reed Warbler were going for it as well, one on Lagoon 1 and the other right out in the open unusually, churning it out from the top of a Willow on Lagoon 2.

There must be at least 2 pair of Kingfisher around as I was watching one pair when another male came speeding past only to be intercepted and sent packing by the other male, exciting stuff!

By the way, just in case you and anyone else might be wondering, it was a Grey Wagtail family party (mental note to read my prose before posting next time!)

The Goosander family were still there on the river at c 8.00 last night - the youngsters looking well grown now.
