i have decided to leave this blog, ill be honest its become dull and uninteresting(apart from the ruddy duck/common scoter)
can we have a birders blog? for the few that are out trying to find good birds?(you know who you are) with out all the twite/conservation committee stuff oh and im bored of malta,by the way if you have all that money why not use it? oh its because being in a committee makes you feel important.
where is the website? why you need a focus group is beyond me,just do it!
back in the day when we setup the 'halifax birdwatchers club' i dont recall 'focus groups' and committee's.we just did it.
all the best

Never having met you but having exchanged emails privately and comments on the blog, I really do find your post inexplicable ? Not all nature observations are going to be exciting and not everything posted is going to be of interest to everyone all of the time. That's obvious I would have thought from the nature of any group. I, as a general amateur naturalist am never afraid to post on this blog even though not a "birder" as I am always made to feel welcome even though I sometimes make mistakes or express strong opinions. I personally do not see what more this blog needs, its up to date, people express opinions, give reports of what's happening locally and nationally and all shades of interest are covered, what more can you ask ?
I feel its rather a shame you have decided to leave. I don't always agree with your comments but that's all well and good, the world would be a boring place if we all thought exactly alike. The life blood of any group or organisation is people expressing opinions and views, sometimes heatedly but without resorting to cheap shots or slagging. If we all agreed on what made the perfect blog it would really would be a boring blog !
Darrell, I for one will not be sad to see you leave. If you want a website so badly why not help out? It appears that no one is good enough for you, unless of course they are raiding birds nests and killing birds then you are quite happy for them to avoid the full strength of the law. You had previously been banned from posting and I only hope now that those who gave you a second chance see that a leopard never does change it's spots.
The committee has done a lot of good and the people on it give a lot of there own time and money to help birds in calderdale.
For someone who so much contempt for the RSPB you have spent a lot of time looking at birds on their reserves over the last 12mths and it seems that attitude carries through closer to home. Where you are happy to enjoy the birds that live and vist Calderdale yet pour scorn on the efforts of those who work hard to improve the situation whilst doing nothing to assist yourself.
All I can say is goodbye you will soon be forgotten and I hope our paths never cross again.
Dear O dear,i ve herd it all now.Lifes not that bad darrell cheer up,get rid of that grey cloud over your heeeead and just go out birding.Dont let um grind you down.Get some bright Orange Trousers to go with your Orange Binns strap and paint your taxi Pink.xxxxxxx
I've not posted much recently, in fact I've not even done much birding of late, but I still read the Blog with interest, and find it slightly sad that anybody can hold such negative views about it or its contributors. I've never knowingly met Darrell, (and I'm not aware of the incidents that Andy Huyton refers to in his comments), but I feel very strongly about his harsh views of people who have tried to make some contribution to the environment, locally or indeed in Malta. Keep up the good work, chaps, and ignore such ill-founded criticism.
I haven't even posted yet and he's havin' a go ....
Darrell if you don't like it don't look at it - that's easy enough isn't it?
Malta and local conservation effort is hugely worthwhile IMHO - Darrell will miss the Twite when they've gone - and he might need some muckers to combat the offroad menace at GW at some point.
Anyway love the new wheels, that was a neat snap Nick.
By the way the latest bird report is excellent, really well produced and full of useful info (thanks Nick, how much do I owe you?) - good team effort, no doubt; probably needed somebody to do something dull and uninteresting like edit it, take it to the printers, distribute it ...
You don't owe us anything, you did more than your fair share for birding in Calderdale when you lived over here (more than some of those that were born and bred here!)
