Marshals Feeding Station

All the gear and food has now arrived at last for the feeding station in the Marshals display garden on Lowfields Business park. I will hopefully be going round on Monday to set this up for them in conjunction with the guy who is going to manage it. Once its set up and running I intend after Christmas to get the local press round for some publicity shots of the feeding station. This has several aims in mind. To give Marshals some well deserved publicity for their funding of the feeding station, secondly to raise awareness of Halifax Bird Watchers Club, and last but not least to try and encourage other local companies to fund and run their own feeding stations for the benefit of local wildlife and their staff.

Another thought I had on this is about the Twite feeding stations. Could we perhaps approach local companies to sponsor these ? Most roundabouts in Calderdale are now sponsored by some local company or other perhaps some would be willing to sponsor the twite feeding as well in return for a little publicity. Does anyone have an idea of costs of running one feeding station annually ?

And not forgetting two/three staff at the GBN (myself included) who are supplying the actual landfill cash spend, are accountable for the project, and have pulled the necessary strings to make it happen, not a foregone conclusion. It is only one part of a wider programme of improvements at Elland Park Lock involving many Marshalls staff and Calder Future. It also stems directly from the existing/ongoing collaboration between Marshalls and CBCG which I initiated (with Mr Marshall) and now extends to them being the first funders of the Ringstone project, providing funding for Peregrine protection (DNA testing), and offering free gravel/crushed stone for Ringstone Phase II if it happens. It is planned for Calder Future (part of GBN) and Marshalls to roll out the wider initiative to other tenanted areas of Lowfields.

What are the plans "It is planned for Calder Future (part of GBN) and Marshalls to roll out the wider initiative to other tenanted areas of Lowfields." for the rest of the site Nigel ? I know of the other aspects such as Ringstone and the Peregrine support but have heard nothing about Lowfields ?

Secondly do you want to send someone along to represent the GBN to any press event at the Marshalls feeding station ? I want to keep out of this as much as possible except as a laison for more feeding stations around Calderdale.

are supplied by cj wildbird food who surport the North west ringing project

Hi Sean
I knew about the twite ringing stations support from CJ Wildbirdfoods as Paul Sears from CJ told me this when I spoke to him the other day. I wondered if any other twite feeding areas are on the go or planned which could do with some sponsorship ?
