28/06/06Is anyone else finding an influx of breeding blackbirds this year?
Here in Queensbury there are more breeding pairs than ever before with what seems to be a pair in nearly every garden. This is a newly fledged youngster behind my works garage where there are 3 pairs. BS

there was a huge autumn/winter influx - maybe some stayed to breed if conditions were optimal?
I would agree with A Jowett. We had more Blackbirds this last winter period coming to food here in E Queensbury (BOG side of boundary) near Littlemore Park than ever before. A max of 15 in the early morning 23 March, I think from roosts in the Park. At least 4 males can be heard singing from here. There is also a Song Thrush that has a territory, but I have seen only a single bird. The local species seem to have done quite well, with young of Great, Blue and Coal Tits, Great Spotted Woodpecker, and Greenfinch paying visits. No sign of Chaffinch young, but I suspect the Grey Squirrels do not help. Goldfinch have been present all spring and summer and I suspect they will also have bred. House Sparrows have young in the nest at the moment. Also Wren in one of the nest boxes on the house. A young Dunnock has made an appearance as well.
Good to hear from Littlemoor Park, its always been a good area but tends to get under-watched
