LEOs Are Back

First pair of Long-eared Owls for the year are back on sight.
Elsewhere 9 goldies, presumed to have just arrived.

Steve, I think you will find that the local LEO's are actually resident although young birds will disperse in autumn. However they are very elusive in winter although I do tend to have an odd winter sighting each year, the collection of pellets in previous years confirms their presence on site.

The Golden Plover wil be migrants as previous nest studies at locally give a first egg date of 12th-17th April, although the sample was small at 8 nests over 3 years.

I will publish all this info on owl pellets, LEO, Tawny, SEO, Little on the blog later this year along with the wader studies, GP, Curlew, Redshank, Snipe, Dunlin and Lapwing

Martyn. Nick D mentioned the very same to me last night, re LEOs staying around during the winter. I was under the impression that they moved into lowland areas....apparently not then. Wonder how they coped with all that snow then.
