Bridlestiles

We tried the walk from Bridlestiles car park (Shelf) in the recent Calderdale Call today (not very clear instructions at the beginning for those, like us, who don't know the area). Apart from the expected Tits, Finches and Thrushes we found Dipper, Nuthatch, Treecreeper, Jay and Mistle Thrush and heard both Green and Great Spotted Woodpeckers in the area around the stream and wood.

Well done Bill - might see you up Fly Flats in the summer!

Good to get Nuthatch in that area. Those woodlands below the park have also been good for Spotted Flycatcher and Redstart in the past so it might be worth a trip down there in the summer as well.

The car park is at the end of a road on the right as you drive through Shelf. The road is labelled Bridle stile and is the 2nd right after the Stone Chair roundabout going towards Bradford. We misunderstood the first instruction and worked our way over into the wood around Wood Fall Back (marked on the West Yorshire OS Street atlas)which was the best area.
