Wonder where all the Raptors went ?

Spotted this on the BBC website this morning. Perhaps we need to focus nearer home as well as on Malta !

There was a discussion about this on Farming Today on R4 this morning, between an RSPB rep and a Moorland Association spokesman.
It should be available on the BBC Listen Again service.

The problem I have with the RSPB on this issue stems back to Rishworth and I know alot of people feel the same, this is further compounded by the RSPB's notable silence over the Sandringham shootings and the withdrawal of funding from Operation Artemis by DEFRA/Natural England.
No surprise that this goes out 2 days after I receive yet another begging letter from the RSPB.
I am more than prepared to help protect any birds but the RSPB needs a reality check and needs to get back to basics.
The RSPB's involvement at local level will become evident at the next meeting of the CBCG meeting and I invite anyone interested in doing more for the conservation of birds to join us at our next meeting.

Sounds like something of interest Andy, can you tell me when the next meeting is and where.

Hi all
I dropped out of the RSPB several years back when I discoverd the chief executive or whatever they are called was on a 80K annual salary. I did not mind my 20 odd quid going to protect birds but I was not paying some desk jockey that amount of money whilst all the real work was done by unpaid volunteers. Its not just the RSPB, most of these groups like Butterfly Conservation (or constipation as its know amongst lepidopterists), etc are exactly the same. One thing you can guarantee is that should a jam jar fill with water down south its turned into a nature reserve...up here should you have nature reserve its turned into a building site :-))
