Dave, is the best way to access Dean Head from the track leading from Fly Flatts or are you allowed to go through the arch at Top Castle Carr and follow the track?

I have gone down the track from the top lodge - with permission of the landowner!

Alternatively, my usual route is down the track from Fly Flats as I also check the Twite area on the way. I come back the same way.

There is a route across the moor which 'I think' comes under the 'right to roam' and comes out above the top lodge. If you need details of this then let me know, as it's bit tricky, especially at this time of year the route is ill defined with all the vegetaion.

Thanks, I'd probably get lost on the moor so I will use the track from Fly Flatts.
