Black Redstart


Black Redstart site looking towards Queensbury
1700hrs 1/9/07
A result at last but only distant quick sightings as the bird flittered from the wall into the field constantly well below the pylon.
Also present
11 Mistle Thrush
5 Blackbirds
2 Mipits
1 Little Owl
Several Starlings

I called up this evening on a tip from Nick D but dipped out myself. If you were watching it from the top of the double bend then I drove past you and it!

Was that you that stopped between the bends when I was there ,then drove off.I have that effect on people.

Glad you put this photo up Brian, it shows the area where I had my previous Black Redstarts in Halifax. 2 there on 18th and 19th August 1978 - they were in the area bottom right of the photo near the lower pylon! Nearly 30 years ago!!!! well done Nigel for finding this bird.

Seems like its a bit of a hot spot area. Where did you see the other birds from,was you in Bradshaw ?

From the bus stop at the top end of the village in Bradshaw take a farm track down to a small stream then up the hillside where it was very stony and field walls. Not sure but think the area might be covered in gorse now - not sure as not been for a long time!! some good habitat down there though might be worth a look?

I know where you mean Dave, you can walk right through there to Oats Royd and up the Gulf to Roper Lane.

i know the place I live opposite the farm track there i'll take a look somtime. good spot for little owls by the way
