Mixenden Reservoir

Mid morning
6 Goldeneye feeding close together in the south east corner (including 2 drakes)
1 female Goosander
1 Moorhen
7 Mallard
1 Great Spotted Woodpecker
2 Herring Gulls
c40 Black-headed Gulls and 15 Common Gulls on the banking

I wonder what it is about Mixy that attracts Goldeneye more than any other local water.

Think maybe it's shallower in parts and maybe more stony rather than just black peat so possibly better food sources (??)

BTO suggest they eat Insects, molluscs and crustaceans. No mention of vegetation which the likes of Tufted Duck eat.
