Cold Edge

Wheatears seemed to be everywhere today including 25+ around this site.
Just a few Swallows, lots of mipits, several Linnet and 1 Skylark.

Usual waders present together with 1 Common Sandpiper and 1 Dunlin.

It's a real struggle to find any breeding birds around Calderdale these days. I used to know quite a lot of sites where they bred - but no longer. Wonder if it's cliamte change and they are just breeding further north - they must be doing well somewhere as they seem to be one of our most prolific migrants - both ways!

I expected the odd Wheatear on "Spoil Hill" yesterday, but none present. At least 8 sky larks, lots of Meadow Pipits and a few linnets. I hear that they are going to landscape Soil Hill, I won't hold my breath though!

I have one reliable breeding site for Wheatear, but there used to be several around here.
