Nestbox moths

Post on Calderdale Moths Blog from Charly Streets.

The first moths emerged today from old bird's nest collected from Nick's just over 5 weeks ago. After placing the nests in a large plastic box with cling film over it and a small vent in the middle the box gradually turned into one giant fly breeding flea pit (not to mention the slugs, spiders etc).
Due to the accumulation of mini swarms of flies building up I decided to let everything go outside and leave the box open inside the garage next to the window so anything emerging would fly straight to the window and rest there - well that didn't work either as three Skin Moths were found today resting on the inside of the box - result!
The nests originated from Upper Hey wood. Here's hoping to more emergences over the next few weeks.

Thanks to Charly for the feedback, Andy C also took some nests so there may be more to come!
