Kingfisher

Unfortunately I found it dead outside Trinity Road in Halifax town centre.  Think it must have flown into one of the windows as was found in an area with very few cars.   Surprising place to find a Kingfisher, just a shame that it wasnt a live one.

What a surprise find in the town centre Vicki. Beautiful birds - especially when they are alive. I wonder if there are any garden ponds in that area where it might have been fishing though I can't think of any other than maybe Peoples Park.

There are Kingfishers along the beck that runs behind Sainsburys through to the bottom of Salterhebble Hill . Years ago they used to breed below Siddal behind Farrow Mill.
They also used to show in the beck opposite the Shay across Huddersfield Rd but they have built houses there now so I dont know if the beck survived or not.
Not a good thing for you to come across Vicki.

From memory, other out of place birds found in Halifax town centre in the past include a water rail (relatively recently?), a puffin, and am I right in saying a storm petrel? Any others?
