Click on the picture to make it readable

With thanks to Evie Bell from West Yorkshire Ecology for producing the above map of these species recorded so far this year. These are not records of breeding.
Other maps are to follow and thanks to Jeff for finding a way of uploading these to the blog.

Thank you to all the records submitted so far but PLEASE SEND IN ALL RECORDS OF BREEDING (or feeding areas)OF THESE BIRDS so we can get a comprehensive picture throughout Calderdale. (even if its just a single pair)
Many thanks
Dave

Saw a Housemartin nest above Unit 80 on Bower's Mill today. Also Swallows nesting in farms buildings in Beestonely.

Did a BTO survey a couple of weeks ago and saw about 15 recently fledged Swallows on fences by cottage at the head of Crow Wood Lane (near Krumlin).

Sorry... Bower's Mill is in the valley between Stainland and Barkisland... just off Branch Road

Many thanks for the information. We have not had many records from that area so these are important.

The Stansfield area of central Todmorden supports a few breeding Swifts, probably 3 or 4 family groups although it can be difficult to count. A few years back I saw nesting on Eagle Street and Wellington Road, but I'm not sure where the current nest sites are.
House Martins are also present, with a number of active nests on Nutfield Street amongst other places.
Both species are very much a part of the summer scene in a very urban area.
