Yellowhammer Records Wanted

If anybody has had any Yellowhammer sightings this year, could they let me know the details ASAP, so that I can make up a report for the AGM?

Cheers.

Cheers for that David.
BTW, are you putting any seed down at the mo?

Just for your information only Steve and please keep this under wraps but I had the operation a number of years ago after my 4th child was born!

I think the answer you really want is no, for a few reasons I decided that I wasn't the man to carry on sean's good work.

For me 1 male 4th March - same spot.

I think Sean J had one at Ringstone on one day this spring - think he put it on the blog (?)

Nice one Mike. I don't suppose you managed to sex or age any of these?
11 on 27th July suggests a few fledged juveniles.
I thought the population was managing to sustain itself at around 3 pairs.....DTs notes indicate perhaps 4 pairs.
From what I understand, males defend/latch on to females rather than nest sites, which makes them more difficult to accurately monitor as they are more mobile than other species in the breeding season.
11 on 27th July, becoming 6 on Sept 1st has got me wondering if the juveniles disperse, or get pre dated/die for some reason. I shouldn't think that the numbers increased due to interlopers passing through, but that cannot be ruled out, either.

Steve

Myself and Niall were feeding the birds at Bradley Hall Farm through Spring but stopped for summer. I haven't restarted yet, don't know about Niall.

Two sightings at BHF from me for 2010 to date:
29 Mar - 2 in flight from hedgerow towards Bradley Wood
15 Jul - 1 adult f and 1 juv in the hedgerow

Had a call from SJ re a sighting of a singing male at Ringstone in July.
Worth keeping an eye/ear open up there. The bird was on the reservoir side of the road, in trees in the dip some distance from the road, on the opposite side of road to reservoir keepers house. This area is often favoured by Linnets.
