Rookery Survey 2009

Just to say many thanks so far for all the information coming in on the rookery survey. Keep the info coming in and especially keep a look out in the next few weeks before the leaves come on the trees.
Several nil counts from former rookeries, quite a number of colonies with up to 12 nests and one of 43. Further details to follow in due course, can anyone check Cragg Vale?
Thanks to all - Dave

Dave, do you want results posting to you - is that easiest ?
Another 2 sites at Clifton found -one with 25+ nests and the other a much smaller colony.

ps I'm sending details of the probable Marsh Tit at Elland GP to Nick D. No photos unfortunately, but a 1977 record was on exactly the same date...

It's a new one Andy as far as I know, I walked round there yesterday. 12 nests but not all seem to be occupied. I am finding some sites hard to assess the exact number of 'active' nests as some of the nests look new - perhaps it will become more obvious in the next 2/3 weeks.

I also found a site today near Ripponden with 2 active nests well away from the other colonies

Mike - post or email will do whichever is most convenient. I am putting all info on a spread sheet as it comes in (with dates) so we can assess whether the number of nests is increasing as we approach the onset of leaves on the trees. If you need my address/email let me know I will send you a text.

Andy - have you had a look at Barkisland? A report came in of possible rook nests around the church and a small colony just to the east end of the village at Field Hurst, apparantly a little cul-de sac opposite the old closed down pub. will you be passing to check - or you might have already done so!

The one at Greetland is the biggest so far with 43 nest but i am going to check them all next week for a more accurate count.

Andy - Darrell has done Shibden Park - just above the play area (12). I found another old colony near the barn down the main drive 100m down from Godley Lane but no activity there 2 weeks ago (6 old nests)but will have another check
