THE FUTURE

Following on from last nights committee meeting I have pledged to head up a steering group which will design a website which Andrew Crystal will then kindly develop for us.

Anyone with who wants to get involved or has any strong opinions regarding what they do or do not want from the website should either leave comments here or email me direct. I will be planning a meeting in the very near future to get things off the ground.

Although I appreciate it may be expensive I think we should give consideration to a data entry type page where people could submit their sightings such that they would go directly into a data base that Nick D could use to write the report. Currently I am spending a lot of time taking records from the Blog to enter onto the BOG recorder program to pass onto Nick.

Its fine having a data entry page but then you open up a whole can of worms with security. Its also more difficult to manage the site on a daily basis AND you have the added problem that if people ONLY enter the data on the site and you have a problem the records could be lost.

I think before you proceed any further you contact Ian Kimber who runs the UK moths website and is a professional IT specialist for his advice. Ian is a mate of mine and I can contact him for you if this would be of help ? I think its much better to chat to a pro first before you venture any further in the planning of this site.

Paul, thanks for the advice and I am always open to ideas however I feel I do need to point out at least that Andrew Crystal is a self employed IT specialist who I have full confidence in being able to identify and address such concerns. The idea of the steering group is so that we come up with what we would like to happen then I will take it to Andrew who will tell us what we can/can't do & should/shouldn't have before he starts work on the site.
